The Big PSTN Switch Off – What Startups and SMEs Need to Know

BT Openreach is switching off the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) in January 2027. That means the old copper phone and ISDN lines are going away.

What does this mean?

  • Landlines using copper wires will stop working

  • ISDN phone systems will be phased out

  • Fax machines, alarms and even some card machines may stop working

What should you do now?

  1. Check what you're using

  2. Look into VoIP (internet-based calling)

  3. Make a plan to switch before you're forced to

Even small businesses will be affected

If your phone is still plugged into the wall or your broadband uses a phone line (FTTC), this could impact you.
